Pleasant Little Surprises

What do you do when you hear what sounds like a fire breathing dragon outside your home?  You grab your Nikon and run out to take a picture or two!

The lovely hot air filled baubles from this weekend's Freedom Weekend Aloft in Simpsonville loftily made their way to our side of town and managed to give the residents of Holly Tree quite a show.  Many even landed in our cul-de-sacs and yards!  How cool is that?

My weekend

Great food, people and music set the stage for yet another wonderful evening in Greenville on Thursday.  Don Felder of the Eagles performed behind the Hugenot Mill Loft with the Reedy River flowing in the background.  He broke out "Hotel California" first and continued to entertain us the whole evening!  He was awesome!  I really think all the celebrities that visited Greenville this weekend for the BMW Charity Pro-Am were highly impressed!  What's not to love??

On Friday, Davey had Austin over and I couldn't help but awe at how much these two have grown!  It was so nice to have the boys together.  They spent the evening beating the "old man" at horse and pig and then chowing down at IHOP!  Yes IHOP!

Saturday was off the the races to "get our red out"!  We spent the night watching bi-planes swoop overhead, cars zip around the race track and lots of people making fools of themselves!  Highly entertaining I must say!  Oh yea!  I almost forgot!  We even set a Guiness World record for having the most flashlights illuminated at one time!

Artisphere

This weekend meant strolling down Main Street in my beloved Greenville at the annual Artisphere Festival. Rated as one of the top 20 arts festivals in the nation, Artisphere did not disappoint! Thousands of paintings, sculptures, jewelry and much more adorned the beautiful streets. There were many events for children as well in the Kidsphere section, inviting a new generation of future Artisphere participants to take part in the very family oriented event.

 There were glass blowers...very hot!

Street performers...very tall!

Adorable children enjoying the day!

Beautiful skylines...

Clever young men!

and a much needed pitstop at Carolina Alehouse!

After a couple of these...

I was brave enough to hold this!

Yep...that was a first!

It would have been nice if I had seen the sign that said "No Photographs" before I took these.  Instead of getting a slap on the wrist, I instead listened intently to the artist explain his work and was able to walk off without having to delete my shots!!

A stroll back to the car and a pretty evening sky made us appreciate that the nearby storms managed to skirt around us while we were once again able to enjoy our beautiful town!

Sunny with a Chance of Iceballs

Yesterday was a muggy, sunny day, the kind of day in the South that tends to produce late afternoon showers and thunderstorms.  Well... not only did we get showers and thunderstorms, we got golfballs falling from the sky!  I have never seen hail like this in my 42 years on Earth so I felt it was worthy of sharing on my blog!  Go ahead, ooh and ahh and wow yourselves silly because this did happen!

And if I could figure out how to make the video I took of this event smaller, I would have been able to post it as well as prove that I wasn't just getting creative with some water in the freezer!  Ahhh...technology!

New York in Bloom

Our trip to New York last weekend was full of good times, food, and family.  It was also full of beautiful blooms everywhere we looked.  I don't know what it is about flowers but I could spend hours photographing them.  The rainbow of colors and the variety of shapes are amazing and they just plain make me smile!

So here they are, an array of New York flowers to make you smile!
