Times a wastin'!

I enjoyed our stay at the Thunderbird Inn, a 1960's revived motel/lodge.  It reminded me of where I used to stay in Florida as a girl while vacationing with my grandparents, and quite frankly, it made me feel nostalgic!  I loved the special little touches like the Moonpies on our pillows and ice cold RC Cola on our night stand!  Who cares that our room was right by the ice maker and that the roller derby girls decided to have their after-derby party til the wee hours of the morning at the Thunderbird!  This is retro people!  And I liked it!

 



Though the bed at this quirky Inn was oh so comfy, we had to get a move on if we wanted to make the most of our last hours in Savannah.  We opted for coffee and free Krispy Kreme donuts in the "lobby" rather than waste our time at breakfast!  Then it was off to Forsyth Park!

This quiet park surrounded by old homes and beautiful architecture makes you feel as if you have stepped back in time.  Here again, the moss covered trees arch over the walking paths and the sounds of the fountain draw you in to stay awhile.  There is even a fragrant garden for the blind!  What a beautiful park this is.  I cannot wait to go back!

Now I don't know how to say this but our next stop was Bonaventure Cemetery, and I did not get a single picture!  I don't know if it was because I was so overwhelmed by it's beauty and tranquility, the fact the we were driving through in a car or if I was just feeling the pressure of "The Captain", but I have been kicking myself for the past 2 days and vow to go back for a proper photo tour soon!  I cannot even begin to explain this place!  Go visit!

Next stop, Tybee Island to view the first light house on the Southern Atlantic coast... but first, a pretty view of the surrounding marshes!

And finally, a picture of the Waving Girl, a statue of Florence Martus and her beloved Collie!  Beginning as a young girl, Florence would wave her handkerchief to the incoming ships to welcome the sailors and would later wave ships coming in at dark with a lantern!  She did this for 44 years!  Rumour has it that she was waiting for a sailor that she had fallen in love with to return to Savannah!



And that was our trip to Savannah...short and sweet but well worth it!  Oh...and did I tell you?  I will go back!  Maybe St. Patty's Day to see the Savannah River turn green!
